Infant Thanksgiving

There are many circumstances where infant baptism is not appropriate but a public thanksgiving for the safe arrival of and love for a child. If you would like to discuss this, then contact the local minister.

Find out more about Infant Thanksgiving at the Methodist Church website.

Weddings

Weddings and blessing may be held at East Finchley Methodist Church. Fees are payable in respect of the ceremony and it cannot take place without the necessary legal certificate being obtained from the Registrar.

Same Sex Marriages

On 30 June 2021, and following prayerful consideration by the whole Church, the Methodist Conference voted to confirm provisional resolutions on same sex marriages conducted on Methodist premises or by Methodist office-holders. The church is working with the registrar to allow churches and ministers who opt into the provisions to conduct same sex marriages.

The Church Council at East Finchley Methodist Church has agreed, in an indicative vote, that it will permit same sex marriages on its premises when this becomes available. It has also agreed that the blessing of a same sex marriage or partnership previously conducted at a registry office or authorised venue may take place at East Finchley Methodist Church. We have already conducted one such blessing.

Funerals

Funerals can be held at the church or the minister can lead a service at one of the local crematoria. A Christian funeral service acknowledges the bereavement but also celebrates life.

The Methodist Church website gives some background information and provides helpful links about the practicalities of arranging a funeral.

Please contact a local funeral director or the Revd Dr Martin Wellings to discuss the arrangements.
